Discover Lisbon through bookstores
Historic bookstores, many of them centuries old, others frequented by the literary elite, second-hand bookstores full of old editions ready to be discovered by new and readers. Spaces that refuse to abandon the city that was born. Places that house a quantifiable heritage, and that with the passage of time become more and more guardians of a history that few people remember.
But also new spaces, innovative concepts and bold atmospheres, where the pleasure of reading is mixed with other forms of art, leisure areas or where you can have a light and healthy meal. There is a whole new universe of bookstores to discover, let yourself be surprised!
Ler Devagar
AlcântaraLer Devagar was founded in 1999 in the former premises of Litografia de Portugal, in Bairro Alto. It has passed through several spaces in Bairro Alto and Braço de Prata since it opened its doors, but it was at the Lx Factory, in Alcântara, that it settled in 2009, and where it remains today. Ler Devagar has always been known for its irreverent atmosphere and concept where bookstore, art gallery, concert hall and bar intersect.

Santos e Cais do SodréLocated in a not so obvious space, it is precisely on the famous pink street that we find the Menina e Moça. Created by Cristina Ovídio, editor at Clube de Autor, where she works with authors such as Mário Zambujal, Miguel Sousa Tavares or Clara Ferreira Alves, the space presents itself as a tribute to Portuguese-speaking writers and a meeting point between different generations. Upon entering, we are greeted by a roof where boats sail and balloons fly, imagined by the illustrator João Fazenda, and in addition to an offer focused on the transl%s>p...
Bertrand Library
ChiadoWith two floors, galleries with temporary and permanent exhibitions, auditorium, disco, restaurant and bar, Ler Devagar will be a mandatory stop on the reader's itinerary. Founded by Pedro Faure in 1732, it became associated in 1742 with Pierre Bertrand, with whom one of his daughters married. When the great Lisbon earthquake in 1755 arrived, the bookstore was forced to move to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora das Necessidades and it was only in 1773, with the reconstruction of Chiado, that we see it return to its place of origin where, since then,%s>p...
Centro Antiquário do Alecrim
