“Revista é sempre revista” in Teatro Politeama

The musical Shrek will invade Parque Mayer until December 30th. Inauguration of Christmas lights in Lisbon

The Christmas spirit took over Lisbon with the inauguration of Christmas illuminations. At Praça do Comércio, the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, the councilors of the Lisbon City Council, Ângelo Pereira and Diogo Moura, the President of the Board of UACS, Carla Salsinha, members of the ADBP board, among many others, were present at this symbolic moment of lighting the traditional 30-meter-high Christmas tree.

With more than 1100 light installations, totaling more than 214 km of light cord, the Christmas lights remain on until the 6th of January.

This year, due to the current energy crisis, Lisbon is illuminated using around 2.2 million low-consumption lamps with LED technology, which are spread over 65 locations, including squares, streets and avenues, guaranteeing savings of 50% in energy consumption compared to last year. The opening hours of the Christmas Illuminations were also reduced to contribute to this savings. The lighting is on from 6 pm to 11 pm from Sunday to Thursday, from 6 pm to midnight on Friday and from 6 pm to 1 am on Saturdays, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.

The most recent Michelin restaurants in Lisbon

On the 22nd of November, the Iberian award ceremony for the new stars for the 2023 edition of the Michelin guide took place in Toledo, in which two names from the gastronomic world in Lisbon were awarded for the quality and excellence of their dishes. They are Encanto, the vegetarian restaurant run by chef José Avillez and which has João Diogo Formiga as resident chef, and Kabuki, the Japanese restaurant under the command of chef Paulo Alves.
The big news of the gala was the announcement that next year two separate ceremonies will be held, one in Portugal and one in Spain. Since 2009, each edition has usually taken place in a Spanish city, and only in 2018 did Lisbon host the event. Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides, explained the decision: “The culinary scenes of both countries deserve their own boost and we want to better promote what makes them unique”.

From the 1st to the 3rd of December, the non-profit organization Dona Ajuda, located in Mercado do Rato, opens its doors to a Solidarity Christmas Market.
