Emergente Festival

Musicbox and B.Lexa will host the 4th edition of Festival Emergente on the 28th and 29th of December. The Festival’s mission is to support the new generation of Portuguese music and the lineup is made up of Bernardo D’Addario and Edgar Pereira Valente, Unsafe Space Garden, SFISTIKATED, Whales and DJ Tiago Nasciso. Associação Musical Lisboa Cantat Christmas concert

Associação Musical Lisboa Cantat (AMLC) celebrates its 45th anniversary and the celebrations will take place on the 21st of December, at 9 pm, at Teatro Maria Matos, with performances by the three choirs that make up the AMLC: the Children’s and Youth Choir, the Chamber and the Symphonic Choir. The choir in CANTUS, directed by maestro Pedro Santos Ferreira, is the special guest. Tickets cost €15 and can be purchased at the Maria Matos Theater ticket office.

Ganso in Capitólio Cineteather

Ganso, a musical group made up of Luís Salamandro, Miguel Barreira, João Sala, Tomás Oulman and Gonçalo Bicudo, will perform live on December 22nd, at 10:30 pm , at Cineteatro Capitólio to remember part of their discography and premiere new releases. Tickets cost €15 and are available on the official Meo Blueticket website.

New Year’s Eve in Lisbon

Lisbon once again celebrates New Year’s Eve at Terreiro do Paço. Paulo Gonzo is the first artist to take the stage and, right after, the arrival of the New Year is marked with 12 minutes of fireworks, to the sound of DJ Moullinex. The party continues into the early hours with performances by Bonga, Cuca Roseta, Elida Almeida, Lura, Pongo and Samuel Úria. Throughout the night, the formation Fogo a Fogo, a string quartet, percussionists, cavaquinho and woodwinds will invade the stage.

Christmas film cycle at Cinema São Jorge

With Christmas in mind, Cinema São Jorge has prepared a cycle of Christmas films – Christmas Tapes – which will run until the 18th of December. Nightmare Before Christmas, Disney’s a Christmas Carol, The Muppet Christmas Carol and How The Grinch Stole Christmas are some of the movies you can watch. Admission is free, but subject to space availability.

Night walk with dogs

The Parish Council of Benfica brings to the neighborhood the initiative “Night Walk with the Patudos”, which invites families to gather their animals for a walk. The objective is to promote and publicize the local trade in products and services for animals. The walk starts at 9 pm, on the 17th of December, and the meeting point is at the Junta de Freguesia de Benfica headquarters. The route runs along an urban route that passes through the neighborhood’s dog parks.

“Caminhada Maior”

The 12th edition of Caminhada Maior will happen on the 21st of December, at 6 pm, with the theme “Percurso das Luzes”. Organized by the Parish Council of Santa Maria Maior, the walk begins at Rua de Santa Cruz do Castelo and its route passes by contemplating the Christmas trees and the illuminations of Baixa Pombalina. Participation is free.

Jazz Festival

From the 16th to the 18th of December, the Jazz Festival returns to Lisbon with the 20th edition. The concerts take place at the Centro Cultural de Belém, at the riding stables of the old Coach Museum and at the Ler Devagar bookshop. Throughout the festival weekend, you will also be able to attend debates. Trilok Gurtu, João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Mário Delgado, Carlos Martins, Salvador Sobral and Marco Mezquida are some of the artists who take the stage. The general pass costs €40 and can be purchased on the festival’s official website, where you can consult the full program.

Christmas crib in Museu de Lisboa

Until the next 7th of January 2023, Museu de Lisboa recovers a tradition started by São Francisco de Assis and dating back to 1223, exposing a Nativity Scene by Delfim Manuel. The nativity scene is installed in an “oratorio machine”, whose open doors reveal angels celebrating the birth of the baby Jesus. Free entry, subject to space capacity.

Return of Christmas concerts in churches

Christmas concerts return to the city between the 2nd and 18th of December with the “Natal em Lisboa” programme, organized by the Lisbon City Council and EGEAC. This year’s edition will feature concerts in churches and shows in different venues. The program began at Igreja Paroquial de Nossa Senhora dos Anjos, on the 2nd, with the work Magnificat em Talha Dourada, by Eurico Carrapatoso, performed by Camerata Atlântica and the Youth Choir Camerata Atlântica. Meanwhile, concerts in the Church of São Vicente de Fora, in the Basilica da Estrela, in the Convent of Cardaes, in the Church of São Roque, in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Ajuda and in the Church of Nossa Senhora das Mercês.

The concerts will also take place on the following days:

December 16: Anglican Church of São Jorge (with the Youth Choir of the University of Lisbon and the Chamber Choir of the University of Lisbon);
December 17: Church of São Domingos (with the Tagus Musicians)
December 18th:

Church of São João Baptista do Lumiar (with Nova Era Vocal Ensemble).
