Inauguration of Christmas lights in Lisbon

The Christmas spirit took over Lisbon with the inauguration of Christmas illuminations. At Praça do Comércio, the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, the councilors of the Lisbon City Council, Ângelo Pereira and Diogo Moura, the President of the Board of UACS, Carla Salsinha, members of the ADBP board, among many others, were present at this symbolic moment of lighting the traditional 30-meter-high Christmas tree.

With more than 1100 light installations, totaling more than 214 km of light cord, the Christmas lights remain on until the 6th of January.

This year, due to the current energy crisis, Lisbon is illuminated using around 2.2 million low-consumption lamps with LED technology, which are spread over 65 locations, including squares, streets and avenues, guaranteeing savings of 50% in energy consumption compared to last year. The opening hours of the Christmas Illuminations were also reduced to contribute to this savings. The lighting is on from 6 pm to 11 pm from Sunday to Thursday, from 6 pm to midnight on Friday and from 6 pm to 1 am on Saturdays, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve.
