Guided tour “The water supply in the city” at Palácio Pimenta

On the 14th of September, at 6 pm, Paulo Almeida Fernandes and Henrique Carvalho, researchers at the Lisbon Museum, will lead the guided tour “The water supply to the city”, at Palácio Pimenta. The visit, through the model of Lisbon before the 1755 earthquake, will tell part of the story related to the difficult water supply to the city in the 18th century. Conceived by the olisipographer Gustavo de Matos Sequeira, which featured the artistic work of Ticiano Violante (buildings) and Martins Barata (boats), the model was made in two phases, between 1945 and 1959 and has been on display at Palácio Pimenta since 1982. Arranged in 17 boards, it represents the city before the earthquake, between Alcântara and Santa Apolónia, between the Tagus river and a line to the north shortly after Rato and Senhora do Monte. The visit costs €3 and tickets can be purchased on the official Blueticket website.

Zone

Alvalade

Through the streets of Alvalade, which seem to have been drawn with a ruler and square, a success story is written of a neighbourhood planned from scratch in the 1940s, but which knew how to grow and evolve into a diversified offer of facilities, schools, services and transport without losing its identity.
