Designed by architect Cottinelli Telmo and sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida, the Padrão dos Descobrimentos was conceived as an ephemeral work in 1940 for the Portuguese World Exhibition. Symbolising a sailing ship, this monument is topped by the imposing figure of Prince Henry the Navigator and has on its sides statues of navigators, kings, painters, writers and other personalities associated with the Discoveries. With 56m high and a privileged location by the river, it is a unique viewpoint from where you can enjoy, a glorious view of the mouth of the Tejo River, especially in the late afternoon.

    Belém and Restelo

Belém, a place of memory, culture and beauty A walk through Belém is a journey through history, as this is the neighbourhood with the largest concentration of heritage sites and museums in the country. And not even the usual bustle of tourists circulating through its streets and gardens cancels out the tranquillity with which the Tejo on the horizon offers us in all its splendour.
