Alcôa
Pastries and Coffes / Chiado
Conventual sweets filled with soft eggs are the protagonists of Alcôa. But during the Christmas season, those who pass by the windows of this pastry shop on Rua Garret can't resist bending over to take a closer look at the delicacies on display. Alongside the famous cornucopias, nun treats, royal nougats, cheeses from heaven and egg chestnuts, Bolo Rei gains a prominent place, accompanied by Bolo-Rainha and Bolo Recheado. You can choose to taste a slice on the spot, or take one (or two, or three) whole to the Christmas table.
The sweets of this famous Alcobaça pastry shop follow the old traditional recipes of the Cistercian monks of Alcobaça. Each one has its particularities, but the bases are always there: the points and the perfect sugar syrups, made in copper pots, as dictated by conventual tradition.
