Campolide: where history and tranquility meet

On a hillside, once a land of olive groves, orchards and vineyards that populated several farms, we find today the quiet residential neighborhood of Campolide that welcomes many Lisbon families and a lot of traditional street commerce.

In Campolide’s landscape, one of the greatest emblematic works that marks the evolution of water supply services in Portugal stands out: the Águas Livres Aqueduct. National monument, which crosses the entire neighborhood with all its magnificence, arousing admiration for those who pass by. For those interested, you can not only visit the aqueduct but also the Mãe d’Água das Amoreiras Reservoir, which also hosts exhibitions, promoted and dynamized by the Water Museum.

With many memories that time has not erased, living in Campolide today is like living in the old town, where high street commerce and its people have not gone away. Perhaps because it is such a familiar neighborhood, it also has a large presence of young students who choose Campolide not only for its proximity to the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, but also for the services, transport and above all for the safety that this neighborhood conveys.
