São Bento Palace (seat of the Assembly of the Republic) – Seat of the Portuguese parliament since 1834 and an example of neoclassical architecture, the São Bento Palace was built in the 16th century and began as a Benedictine monastery.

Considered a National Monument since 2002, anyone who passes through Rua de São Bento is not indifferent to the building's magnificence, nor to the grand staircase flanked by two lions, symbols of power, justice and strength, or to the four allegorical female statues at the top, representing prudence, justice, strength and moderation.

The interior of the palace is equally grand, full of wings and Portuguese works of art from different eras.

Note: The Assembly of the Republic is open to the public during temporary exhibitions and on the last Saturday of every month, when free visits can be made by appointment, which include a walk through the garden.
