Who would imagine that the immense forest of Monsanto was once a landscape almost devoid of trees where cereals were mainly cultivated? It was only in the late 30's of the last century that it was decided to install a forest park in the Monsanto hills, in order to create a leisure and recreation space for the population. Currently, it is the largest green spot in the city, and represents about 10% of the Lisbon municipality, integrating the territory of seven parishes, one of which is Ajuda.
