One of the gardens of Ajuda National Palace, this green area that runs parallel to the northern facade of the palace was, in royal times, the favourite spot of the ladies of the court of D. Maria I. In its surroundings there are other buildings associated with the presence of the Royal Family in Ajuda, namely the Torre Sineira da Capela Real da Ajuda, the Paço Velho and the Ajuda Botanical Garden.
