Ecolã is the oldest certified UPA (Artisan Productive Unit). Since 1925 (third family generation) and located in Manteigas, Serra da Estrela, it follows the entire cycle of the Bordaleira sheep's wool, from shearing to the final product, on a natural, ecological and sustainable basis. Using traditional processes, it maintains a cultural heritage associated with the design.

Burel is a 100% sheep wool fabric of medieval origin, always associated with Serra da Estrela, the mountain, the shepherds and their cloaks. Burel's authenticity results from a sequence of specific operations in the manufacturing process. The wool, after being woven, is trodden on a machine called a stomp, which beats and scalds the wool transforming the fabric (see) into burel, making it tighter, more resistant and waterproof.
