Drogaria Oriental is one of the few drugstores in Baixa, which has stood the test of time. It was founded in 1893 by Francisco Simões and in 1939 it was inherited by his widow, who later passed it on to José Emídio Pereira, an employee of the former Drogaria Pereira Leão, bought the shares in the Drogaria and became the sole partner. Years later, José passed his drugstore to the current owners, who already owned Drogaria São Domingos.
