Considered to be one of the busiest stations in the city, the Cais Sodré Station is a rail interface of the Cascais to Lisbon Line, and is only 10 minutes away from the historic Praça do Comércio by foot. Designed by the architect Pardal Monteiro and classified as a Public Interest Monument, its construction reflects a modern architectural response in which an "Art Deco" conception is evident. The low reliefs and tile panels on the facade are also noteworthy. They reflect allegories of work and machinery, idealising mechanical symbols associated with the notion of "Progress".
