It is considered to be one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in Lisbon today, but the truth is that Chiado has never gone out of fashion. Its charm was well evidenced by great figures of the arts and literature in the 19th and 20th centuries, such as Eça de Queiroz and Fernando Pessoa, who used to frequent this area in a Lisbon of other times and referred to it in their works.
